I am just coming back from a personal retreat, a time of remembering a close childhood friend who recently passed away. During this time I honored this deep and abiding friendship that started at a pivotal time in my life.
Taking extra time to consciously restore my energies, this was truely a time to celebrate life, and still honoring that grief was woven into the experience. It also gave me a few days to move away from my routine and rest in renewal.
Finding moments of quiet presence, within myself, was harder to find than I had hoped, I had prepared beforehand so I could really relinquish the “to-do’s” and wanted to sink into the experience of retreat.
I knew I was moving into a space of quieting, finding my way home, being present to myself while honoring the emotional flow.
pres ence [prez-uh ns] noun
1. the state or fact of being present, as with others or in a place.
2. attendance or company: Your presence is requested.
3. immediate vicinity; proximity: in the presence of witnesses.
This quieting time, was a perfect start to a longer conversation about different ways of retreating and reenergizing. Taking time to restore balance and re-story life.
Retreating and energizing are natural rhythms to which we all respond. Like inner waters that ebb and flow, retreating from day to day life invites us to connect back in. This is where we can listen, remember and move into new experience.
Listening itself can bring us into balance, especially when we are not tending to some of our deeper needs. How common is this in the flurry of everyday life! Remembering is a gathering energy, bringing back together that which has been separated from itself. Moving into is the outcome, of being in conversation with ebb and flow while allowing it to carry you.
Listening, remembering and moving into the tide of one’s life with better choices, options and ways of meeting the true self, the new self, is key to experiencing refreshed renewal
